what makes a marriage work

pretty strange topic coming from a single who's not even attached. maybe it's not so strange a question since i AM single n i do wonder about this unknown world called
marriage. why do pple get married when two or eight or twenty years down the road, they get a divorce? did love turn to hate? how can the things that once made you be so attracted to your spouse suddenly be the things that made you be disgusted? why can't these two adults talk things through n eventually work it out? i mean, that's what adults are supposed to do right? talk about problems n work out a solution... n the solution shouldn't be a divorce.
maybe this is just the opinion or the daydream of a single girl: but i think that if there's enough give n take, if both parties are willing to forgive whatever wrong that was done, if they could just remember all the good n bad (esp. the good ones) they've been through all those years... all those memories shared, i'm sure the marriage would still be a marriage. a fool's dream? maybe so but there's a saying that says
people strive on dreams.. it's what keeps them going.
whatever it is, i think marriage works coz two people wants to build a common dream. together with mutual understanding, give n take, acceptance of the other's flaws n the willingness to change for the better... n of coz, love. those are what makes a marriage work. i'm not talking from experience, i'm just talking through observations of my parents, my bros, my friends. kudos to them for keeping their marriage vows.
